Short list. Don't overthink it.

The essentials

A bike. Yours, if you have one. Any working bike is fine — a kid's bike with stabilisers, a hand-me-down with squeaky brakes, an adult MTB you've never used. If you don't have one, add a sized bike to your booking for +S$5 and we'll bring one to fit.

Water. A full bottle, more if you're a sweater. Singapore is humid even on overcast days, and an hour of focus is more work than it sounds.

Closed-toe shoes. Sneakers, school shoes, running shoes — anything that won't slip off. Avoid slides, sandals, or open-toe shoes. We've had a few sandal-related stubbed toes; they're not fun.

Thick jeans (or sturdy long pants). This is the one piece of "gear" that genuinely matters. Beginners do tumble occasionally, and a layer of thick denim is the difference between brushing it off and nursing a graze for a week. Tights, leggings or thin pants give almost no protection — wear jeans if you can.

That's the whole essential list.

The nice-to-haves

  • Helmet, gloves, or pads. Bring them if you'd feel safer. We don't require them — most adult learners and confident kids don't bother, and the venue is car-free and flat. But if it helps the rider relax, that's reason enough. (Helmets are most useful once you start riding faster on PCNs.)
  • A change of shirt. Singapore weather plus an hour of effort — you'll thank yourself.
  • Snacks (for kids). A small snack and a juice box afterwards helps. Hunger lessons are a different sport.
  • Sunscreen. Even sheltered, parts of the lesson are in indirect sun. Re-apply if you're prone to burning.
  • A phone (for parents watching). Most parents want a video of "the moment." We do too. We'll tell you when it's coming.

What you don't need

  • Special cycling clothes. Lycra is for later. Casual shorts or pants are fine.
  • A "training" bike. Your normal bike is the training bike.
  • Padding on the bike. Foam handlebar pads etc. don't make a difference.
  • Multiple bikes for siblings. We coach one rider per session for safety. If two kids are starting together, book back-to-back lessons.

On the day

Aim to arrive five minutes early at the meet-up point — bus stop 75151, opposite Block 871A. We'll walk together to the sheltered carpark, about a 90-second walk. Then we ride.

If you're running late or can't find the spot, WhatsApp +65 9725 3069. We'll come find you.

That's it. See you on the bike.
